I was so taken with the essence of "Summer of '69" and "18 'til I Die" that I just HAD to write one with a bit more substance in it... :)
I've always wanted to maintain that childish streak... that thing which always throws grown-ups off-guard. That zing thing which differentiates a child from a grown-up. Grown-ups are supposed to be mature. But I don't think that they should lose their child-like qualities when they grow up. Keep 'em. They're good.
Born a while ago
Became a bundle of joy
Was the center of attention
Was a home for affection... from everyone
I rusted as the days flew by
Frosted as I grew up
Thinking twice before I speak
Prejudice making me weak
What happened to that lil kid
I used to be before?
Why do I do all these things
That hurt me deep inside?
Drink of the fountain
The fountain of youth
You'll never grow old till ya die
It'll give you a new life
You'll be singing a whole new song
If ya just drank from the fountain of youth
So I drank of the fountain
The elixir of life
Refreshed me wholly through
Made me fully new
I'm strengthened as I live my life
Drinking daily from the fountain
Care and love define my speech
Hope attacks me like a leech
Looking beyond the empty faces
Which surround me so
I try to see a ray of life
In every living soul
Drink of the fountain
The fountain of youth
You'll never grow old till ya die
It'll give you a new life
You'll be singing a whole new song
If ya just drank from the fountain of youth
